The supermarket giant came under fire after leaving the plot empty for so long, and it has now been revealed that the scheme has been put back a year. Yes I agree, also don't see much point in the three new shops which have appeared where Parkys was, what business will survive there ?another charity shop perhaps or a fast food outlet or maybe a new hairdressers. RE: Tesco Express to be built on site of old petrol station - anacortesdamp - 07-Dec-2013 It's actually the site of two old petrol stations. We had one that was across the corner with entry from both Turpin Green and Canberra Road. The family business regrouped and sold the place to Bob Barton (about 1960?), who had a motorcycle dealership near the Turpin Green/Hough Lane junction. He built a new facility on our old site which aligned with Canberra Road. It included a car-wash, I think. Frank RE: Tesco Express to be built on site of old petrol station - noel - 07-Dec-2013 Barton used to employ young females wearing tight revealing t shirts who had to come out and serve you. It was about that time I began to have problems with my blood pressure. RE: Tesco Express to be built on site of old petrol station - noel - 15-Apr-2014 The new Tesco is virtually complete now, so that's 3 Tescos in Leyland, and who said they killed off the local corner shops. It's a bit of a problem judging traffic when you're coming down Canberra Rd, the building blocks all but a few yards of vision along Turpin Green Lane, you have of course to give way to traffic and of course the pedestrian crossing looks rather confused now sited where it is. Glad I don't have to cross there on foot. RE: Tesco Express to be built on site of old petrol station - Martin - 15-Apr-2014 Has anyone got any up to date photos of it? RE: Tesco Express to be built on site of old petrol station - noel - 15-Apr-2014 If no-one posts one I'll try to get one later this week. I can't understand how it got planning permission.
