I have to say I am probably more able to comment on chippys in Leyland than most. My Mum is Barbara (Ainsworth)who owned what is Thowd Chippy now - she didn't need a name on the shop because everyone knew it was Barbara's. It was the only chippy in Leyland that "barred" badly behaved youths!! and had a direct line to the old Police Station. My Mum sold the chippy over 20 years ago but it was a good business and did sell THE BEST FISH AND CHIPS in Leyland. She used to compete with Stuart's on leyland Lane - which were good too. Because Mum was in the trade I knew alot of the shops and owners of that time.
However I have just found out that my great grandparents owned a chip shop on Hough Lane many years ago - Liveseys - which is mentioned in the book "Green pastures" about Leyland.
Hope this jogs a few memories.

[:I]I have just remembered... some of our busiest times at Barbara's were when the Fair came into town - it used to be on the REC - which is where TESCO is now. The fairground people used to spend a fortune with us and Mum was quite open to strange requests such as a battered Meat and Potato pie!!! If they were paying we were cooking!
