Police Response
#1
On mothers day, i noticed a suspicious looking vauxhall astra parked
outside our shop in penwortham - being in the motor trade i tend to notice these things for some unknown reason ???

Upon a closer examination i noted that the locks had been interfered with and the steering lock bypassed - so all you neeeded to drive it would be a screwdriver - the tax was over 6 months out of date.

I called penwortham police - to be passed to leyland police who said they would attend - my biggest concern was that the vehicle was insecure and with impending nightfall i was felt that any child with half a mind could start and drive the vehicle - indeed it may have been parked there awaiting the evening where the thieves could return and joyride at leisure.

After 1 hr i called again to be told that the vehicle had been checked. I informed the officer that i had been in our shop the whole time and no police vehicle had stopped so how could it have been checked ?

I was told in no uncertain terms that the police have not got time to move every vehicle and that an officer had driven past the bottom of the road and looked up - as the vehicle was in a parking bay it was deemed to cause no threat !!!!

I explained my fears re the joy riding, according to Lancs Police there was a very low chance of this happening - despite the fact that the area is renound for it and that the vehicle was "ready to go"

I told the police that i would disable and lock the vehicle myself - they warned me i may be prosecuted for attempted theft !!! HOOT

I removed the coil lead and locked the vehicle up - it remained there for a further week in the disabled parking bay until the council deemed to remove it..

I spoke to a friend in the police re this incident who said i should have let the h/brake off, and rolled it into the road thus forcing the police to act - another friend in the police said - if i had been seen then i would have have been prosecuted LOL

So all the talk about the judicial system and police having there hands tied when it comes to prosecution seems transparent when they were clearly more interested in prosecuting the so called do gooder than preventing a potentially serious crime .....!!!!!

Could have been a car bomb for all anyone knew, sadly I have no confidence in the police and every time I hear stories like this I have even less.

Thia reminds me of a news cutting someone sent into 'the News Quiz' last year - the newspaper reported that a man had seen burglars riffling through his shed, so he'd rung the police, but they said they had no staff available and wouldn't be able to come and arrest the burglars for at least an hour. The man, not wanting to tackle the burglars himself and feeling sure they would get away well before any police arrived, rang the police back to say he'd shot one of the burglars. The cop car was there in 5 minutes, sirens blazing. "I thought you said you'd shot one of them?" said the policeman as he dragged a burglar away. "Yes, and I thought you said you had no staff available to attend to this crime?", replied the man! Touche?
