Smithy (Patricia Rukin, nee Smith) posted this on 21 Sept 2007 - in 'Anyone Remember':- "My father-in-law drove Fishwicks buses for years (Bill Rukin), started way back when the buses had solid tyres!"
I discovered last night (too late unfortunately as she died in 2008) that she was my cousin-in-law, having married Billy's son Jack; Billy was my Mum's brother.
Mum (Jessie) worked for some time at the Motors - as a typist/clerk I think. Then she married Bruce and had me!
Dad was a Master Printer having studied in Manchester - he then sold Insurance before the war and we lived in Stockport for a while - he was a Squadron Leader in Coastal Command and finished the war as an instructor at Friars Gate, Blackpool.
After the war we holidayed a couple of times at Cleveleys and I recall a similar trip as Frank remembers - in a Taxi - but I think it was from a different operator (Marsden??)
We came to NZ in 1954 - Dad died about 1966 but Mum (95 this coming NY Eve) still lives in Hastings where we first settled; my younger brother John lives with and cares for her.
