Thia reminds me of a news cutting someone sent into 'the News Quiz' last year - the newspaper reported that a man had seen burglars riffling through his shed, so he'd rung the police, but they said they had no staff available and wouldn't be able to come and arrest the burglars for at least an hour. The man, not wanting to tackle the burglars himself and feeling sure they would get away well before any police arrived, rang the police back to say he'd shot one of the burglars. The cop car was there in 5 minutes, sirens blazing. "I thought you said you'd shot one of them?" said the policeman as he dragged a burglar away. "Yes, and I thought you said you had no staff available to attend to this crime?", replied the man! Touche?
