Signposts?!
#1
Is it me or is Leyland the worst town is Lancashire to be sign posted?

For instance, go to Chorley town centre the sign posts are just for Preston, Bolton, Manchester and a few surrounding villages. Goto Blackburn, and same there.

Whats even worse is the lack of sign posts in Preston to Leyland. If you head out of Preston and when you are aproching Penwortham there are signs, but if you head out of Preston past the Prison and down London Road the sign posts only give you directions to Chorley, Blackburn and Lostock Hall!!!

Also towns in South Ribble don't sign post Leyland e.g. Bamber Bridge and Walton le Dale.

Does Leyland exist to our nneightbouring towns? I just find it funny/annoying that Leyland, a town with a population of 40,000+ and administrative centre for a population of 105,000 isn't sign posted by its neighbouring towns/city!

I have to agree with you on this one. Even on the motorway, you don't see signs for Leyland until you are almost at the Leyland junction. When driving around Lancashire I have always had to look for Preston or Chorley signs to make sure I was heading in the right direction.

Leyland may be badly signposted but it's not unique. Recently I travelled to Ilkley, but the first sign I saw for the town was about 2 miles outside it, when I was already on the main route through Ilkley. At the previous roundabout the turn-off to Ilkley was signed for Leeds - if you didn't know Ilkley was on the Leeds road, you'd have been snookered!

To be honest I never look at the signposts as I know the area very well.
However when I went to Bradford to watch PNE play in the FA Cup in 1995 I couldn't find a single signpost to the M62 to return home . I ended up going to Leeds via Heathcliffe country , arriving in Leeds an hour after I had set off to return,
There is something definitely wrong with Bradford as on an earlier trip to watch a league game there I went right past the turning and ended up at Rotherham. By the time I got back to the ground the game had nearly eneded.
I avoid Bradford now.

Ah, it'll be the Bradford Triangle - kind of like the Bermuda one, only not so exotic! [:o)]

Nice one Linda, talking about signposts , any of you know where you can find a signpost , in England that shows Ireland 1 mile Scotland ( in the other direction) 1/2 a mile. Not sure if these directions are absolute but they are near as darn it.

You know folks, the daftest answer I ever got to this question was from a quite intelligent person who suggested the signpost was at Holyhead on Anglesey . Ireland I can just about get 1mile though?? And Scotland well, errrr.
Welcome back friend.
