Moving to Leyland
#11
Hi RAPC. As someone who has lived in Leyland all of their life, I can recommend it also. I work in Manchester, but do the commute by car. Usually takes me 40 minutes to Ashton if I set off early enough in the morning.
My only advice would be, make sure that you have a really good scout around the town before you buy. Leyland currently seems to have various developments jumping up all over the place, so there is no need to rush into buying on the Wheelton Lane development, as the train station is pretty easily accessible from most places.
It must be a buyers market at the moment with the number of new builds, so good luck.

What a shame, I havent been in leyland for almost 8 years and before that I think the last festival I saw and took part in was in 1976!!
Do you have something else to take the place of the festival?
I hope the train in the park is still there!!!

The train in the park is still there, they have done lots of work and improved it by putting a new track.

Can't remember when the festivals last year was. I think it was lack of funding? Not sure on that either. I am sure another forum member must know????? It was always a great day with lot's of excitement whether you were involved or not.

I think the festival ended because of a disagreement. Not sure what it was about though. What a shame they don't try and bring it back.

I'm a Mancunian originally,

I'm from the fringes of Manchester myself, RAPC, and now live on the outskirts of Wigan. My only link to this forum came from knowing Forum-master, Martin, but the Leyland crowd are so friendly, I became addicted. I did join a Wigan forum, but didn't get the same friendly feel as I get on here. If Leyland is as welcoming in real life as it is in cyberspace, you should enjoy living there. [Smile]

Home is where you put your head down and feel comfortable. Leyland has a lot going for it and in my opinion, people should look forward and see what can be done to improve things, not be destructive and critical.

I recall a saying by one of me "Leyland" colleagues - "Good fault finders should be good fault menders" He had a lifetime of experience behind him at the time, but that little saying has been in my mind ever since, and that`s nearly sixty years.

I agree on the chips question, Leyland chips during the war were good, but being a bit of a hybrid, I don`t know where my loyalties should rest. Father from Manchester, mother from Wales, born in Clayton le Woods, lived in Leyland - Chorley and now Barnsley, Chips is chips, but during the war Leyland chips were life itself.
Chips today???? Help!

Sorry, posted in wrong section - senior moment!

Working as a highways inspector I have visited nearly every road and town in the whole of Lancashire, and after 2 years I can now confirm that Leyland is the best town on the county. I have been here for nearly 27 years and honestly (despite thoughts of moving to large country houses) never want to leave.
