Today is the sixth anniversery of this tragic event.
To our American colleagues in particular, and to all our posters, I send sympathetic greetings to remember those who lost their lives, and to those who live with the horror of memories of that day.
We Remember Them - Innocent victims who never leave our thoughts.

Here here, william, my thoughts also go to those who lost loved ones on that terrible day and to those brave men and women who lost their lives trying to save others and to their families, may we never give up the fight to lead a normal life!!!

Perhaps this should become a day to remember all the victims of terrorism around the world who lost their lives just because they happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time?

I agree Linda there are so many victims of terrorism throughout the world many people think that this fight began on 9/ll but it began many years before and so many more are dead because we did not pay attention. I still remember 9/11 and watching in horror as I saw people jumping out of windows and not until later learning what the thuds were that we heard when firefighters were talking in the other tower before it fell.

Last night I watched Travers Smiley interviewing the muslim author of a newly published book ,apparently the book reports on the fact that the author had taken a group of American students on a group discussion tour of muslim countries. They found that understanding was initially difficult but eventually common understanding was achieved, as what one expect between other than extremist folk. However the underlying message was that the west was not sufficiently responsive to the demands of world of Islam, that the problems indeed conflicts all around the world were the direct result of the west not understanding and accomodating muslim values !
Looking back, Munich Olympic massacre,Yasser Arafat introducing hostage taking, blowing up aircraft, etc. on and on over the years, numerous daily muslim acts of suicide bombing, culminating with 9/11, yet even after the innumerable attrocities it's seemingly becoming normal to blame the west and in particular the US for its attempts to challenge and overcome these oppressive regimes, the policeman has now become the accused !
At the end of this interview one was left with the impression that all that is needed was for the west to dismiss it's values and accept Islam then and all would be well ! Two days ago the person most respected by 70% of muslims , Osma Ben Laden, came forth with exactly the same suggestion!
Despite the overwhelming oppression rampant in the Muslim world, the fact that they condone atrocoties on a daily ( even hourly ) basis, our society seemingly is allowing itself to be sucked in ,we have allowed ourselves to become the whipping boy for the troubles of the Islamic world. If Osma had access to the ultimate weaponry, who would doubt that he'd rejoice at using it against the west ?
Innumerable folks from these oppressive yet religious areas deem it nesessary to leave their own shores and take up residence in the west, they proceed to attempt to convert our societies to their ways even after leaving their oppressive regimes . Why we allow such illogical acts ,I fail to comprehend .
GWB is not the best communicator, but he did not direct those planes to the twin towers !

Alan, I cannot disagree with your views, and think back to my time in the Far East where the first thing the people from the British Empire did on their arrival in the sub-continent was to build English churchesn and endeavour to convert their native servants to the Protestant religion. This was against all their teachings over many years, but to work for the Sahib you must adopt his way of life.
Small wonder that the Muslim community hate the British, it has been instilled in them that the British way of life was the only way. The caste system had its drawbacks, but we must beware, and realise that perhaps two generations down the line, Islam will have established itself in our midst if we allow it to spread.
What is required is very firm government by a strong determined party which does not give way to the "do-gooders" we have raised. I regret to say that in my opinion, we do not have such a government, nor the people with the backbone to face the challenge.
I could go on about past Dictators and their aspirations, but that would get me "drummed out" of the Forum, so I leave it to right-minded people to study history in the 1930`s, and draw their own conclusions.
