Eating out..

Oh yes, that one. A 400 house "village" with no facilities, so where do you site the pub? On the adjacent office park. Genius, pure genius!!

We tried The Railway in Leyland again at the weekend. Once again the food was excellent, the service friendly and efficient. If anything the child's portion for a 2 year old was far too much, fresh fish gudjons in a crispy batter. Not having had a chippy meal for well over a year I opted for fish, chips and peas. The fish was the length of the plate and the chips, large chunky and very dry, not at all greasy, and clearly not from frozen stock, was soon devoured. The meat dishes which of course I don't touch were all stated as using meat from Michael Haydock's butcher shop on Stanifield Lane. Haydocks have owned the shop as long as I have known. My first recollections were around 1955 Tom and Hilda ( I think) Haydock running the shop after Tom's dad had retired. Michael their son I went to school with. We used to play at marbles using sheep's eyeballs at the back of the shop.

I can recommend the food at the Walton Fox we went there for Valentines day we had the 'special' three courses for £14.95 with a choice of starters and main course the dessert course was a 'sharing platter' with three different things on all absolutely scrumptious served with long handled spoons LOL so we could feed each other!!

Well, I think that's lovely, Shuffy - it would have been my wedding anniversary tomorrow and we always celebrated with a nice meal out or a weekend somewhere (February weather permitting). So happy with each other until the day he died suddenly, but that doesn't mean I can't still be pleased for others. Cheers!

After nearly 40 years you're still going out together for Valentine's Day - now that's what I call romance! I still receive a bouquet of flowers on Valentines Day, but I usually cook something special at home rather than us going out. We had difficulty getting babysitters when the kids were little and we got out of the habit!

We ate at Fresco's in Croston last night. http://www.frescofresco.com/

the restaurant is run by an Italian family and was buzzing last night, something you don't expect in sleepy Croston. The food was excellent and reasonably priced, except we were presented with next table's bill by mistake ( they must have someone with an alcohol problem I thought, looking at it).
For anyone enjoying Italian food, I would recommend it. But book to be sure of a table.

We had to eat out last night as our electricity supply was off from 9-30am until just before 11pm, 13 hours!! I wanted to go to Morrissons to eat but was over-ruled by she who knows best and went to the midge, or Railway at Midge Hall as it's officially known. They've spent a fortune on refurbishing but personally Iprefer the old lay-out, and the chicken curry we both had that was supposed to be with veg and fruit was disappointing. The chicken was cubed and tender but tasteless, in a very mild curry sauce, more heat needed for me, and apart from the chicken in the sauce there were 2 sultanas. Very disappointing for £17.50 for the two of us. DaVinci on Saturday should have no problem beating it.
