I was reading a piece in the Leyland Guardian, and I'm confused about where the Leyland Tesco store really is. My impression was that it filled in the old Church Road "Rec" plus some land to the west, but was within the boundaries of Church Road, the old Eden Street Prefabs, the new road going down to the old Police Station/Library (St. Andrews Way?) and the stretch of Towngate between the old Library and the Cross.
The story in the Guardian had people on Leyland Lane complaining about the impact of the store. Is there another Tesco (maybe a Tesco Express - whatever that is) down there or is the big one a lot bigger than I realised?

This one is a small store about the size of the old EH Booth store that was in Leyland. It's just past Longmeanygate heading west on the right hand side where a garage used to be, midway bewtween Western Drive and Robinson's Ice Cream shop. It sells a small selection of Tesco's products, bit like Spar shops.

Local residents were complaining that there was a lot of druggie activity round the back of the store, a lot of the store's trash was being scattered around the area and their trash receptacles weren't being picked up regularly.
The store maintained that the problems were in a ginnel that ran alongside their back area and not on their property.
The story was in the on-line Leyland Guardian either last week or the previous week.

Wasn't there also an issue over somebody's garage wall that had been damaged by vehicles using their car park? As a result the owner of the garage said they would have to rebuild it completely.
The drugs issue seems to be commonplace, I do hope their job seekers benefits are enough to keep them well stocked up ( said cynically).

All seem to be complaints that the store cant really be responsible for.
One thing I would say is that if planners knew how busy it would have been I would doubt it would have been given permission seeing the carpark is sooo small. It can be very busy around there at all times of day!

Tesco's would have known how busy it would be- they do their research and wouldn't build if they weren't sure they'd get the customers.
