Allotments in Leyland
#31
I trust you are not going to allow HWMBO to eat any of them, when harvest time arrives?

Fish chips and pansies doesn`t quite sound the same, does it. [Tongue][Tongue][:p]

Noel, you need to negotiate a compromise! I can understand SWMBO might not want long rows of veg in the borders, but an occasional frisee lettuce or cauliflower or cabbage amongst the flowers looks fine. And a wigwam of beans looks glorious in flower! All you need to do is learn to market your ideas better when talking to the missus!

I agree Linda, and don't forget containers Noel, potatoes and carrots can both be grown in containers on the patio and so convenient for harvesting for lunch when ready.[Big Grin] also a wigwam of peas.

My sister has given me some seed potatoes, she bought far too many, so that's one container taken care of. Can you grow anything else inbetween the rows of potatoes or is it asking too much? Maybe I should just cram as many seed potatoes as I can into the container?

I think your spuds will take a container to themselves..
I agreee with linda though, interplant your veg with your flowers. No one will know, everyones a winner!

I went to the garden centre this week to see about getting a few fruit plants etc. He told me that everything is about a month later than normal this year because of the cold weather. Even the Dafs aren't out and it's mothers day tomorrow!

Last year there were daffs in bloom at the bottom of the hill at the end of January. This year I've yet to see a single one in flower, though those at the base of the hill (where it's a bit warmer) are close now. No daffs in bloom for St David's day either. Our snowdrops have provided a glorious display, but would normally be finished by this stage of March. The crocuses are only just thinking about flowering. Definitely a very late Spring this year!

Wordsworth's daffodils in the Lakes should be out by now, but aren't, disappointing the tourists!

It's the opposite here. Daffs have been in bloom for the last four weeks and are well on their way to being finished, tulips are already in flower. Pollen count (tree pollen) is already well up, so allergy sufferers are starting early.

There's some concern that the last week of the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival (fourth week of April)might not have any flowers left.

It was a really nice day yesterday - sunny with fluffy white clouds and about 17C. Three more like that to come, then back to rain.

Trying to snow here this morning! Daffs just beginning to emerge. The crocuses are great at the minute though.
