From the baths of Lancashire to the Arabian Gulf, Jamie Atherton set a world first when he swam round an iconic landmark.
Former Balshaws High School pupil Jamie, 32, swam 17km round Dubai's Palm Jumeirah, a man-made island in the shape of a palm-tree.
Jamie, who grew up on Leyland Lane and has lived in UAE for eight years, has represented Great Britain in triathalons.
He embarked on the challenge in memory of friend John Ratcliffe.
