Leyland Prefabs
#1
Can anyone clear up my confusion relating to the dates of construction of what I have incorrectly, I think, made continuous in my head?
1.A new road was built to extend Ryden Avenue, ending on Bow Lane. In the area of the roads were built a large number of prefabricated houses, not of the off site type and bolted together, but an earlier type. These were built to house transferees from the Royal Ordnance Factory in Woolwich to work in the Chorley/Euxton facory. Anyone know the date of this construction?
2. A new estate of prefabricated houses whose road and foundations were dug by prisoners of war was built in the field that fronted Ryden Avenue and bounded by Brownie brook (Bryning Brook). These were true prefabs and I suspect were begun in 1945. Anyone know the date these were built?
