The Raspberry Pi computer goes on general sale

A credit-card sized computer designed to help teach children to code goes on general sale for the first time today.

The Raspberry Pi is a bare-bones, low-cost computer created by volunteers mostly drawn from academia and the UK tech industry.

Sold uncased without keyboard or monitor, the Pi has drawn interest from educators and enthusiasts.

I've been looking on the Farnell and RS websites but no sign of any being available.

The Farnell site has been down most of the time.

I've just placed an order for one of these with Farnell.

Now I need to look for a power supply, leads, keyboard and mouse.

People are selling these on eBay now. Last night one went for £240. That's as much profit as a ticket tout.

When you get yours Martin you will at least know someone else who has one, I might end up buying a few because I have thought of jobs for them. I might run Mame on one and build myself an arcade machine with a RP. I have a few other ideas that would end up embedding a Raspberry Pi in something, the only problem is time to do everything I want to do.

I was thinking last night that if someone writes a good user guide for the Raspberry Pi, there could be a good profit in it.

My Pi arrived last week. I have all the bits ready to get it going. SD card, keyboard, mouse, power supply, USB hub and we also have a network plug that runs through the mains. I haven't loaded the OS yet as I'm busy working on the forum database but I'll power it up soon.

There is a good user guide for Raspberry Pi, its written by Eben Upton (Pi Creator) and available for pre-order on Amazon now. Should be shipped in the next month or so.
