Just looking through some old postings and noticed the ones from plumdutch and his fathers grocery shop. I well remember it as it was my uncle Dick (Richard Holmes) shop. Cousin Peter I have a huge family tree on the Holmes and Sumner families if you are interested. Also Sargeant Pollit lived next door to us in Clifton Avenue. I can remember walking through th estreets of Leyland as a very young lad and having Elsie Banks pointed out. She probably wouldnt raise an eyebrow now.

Jack Tong the barber could be famous as the fastest barber in England, if any one from Leyland Motors, B.T.R or L&B can attest who used him in the dinner hour for a quick back and sides and the chippy Hunts in the same block of shops on Golden Hill. who served up a fast portion of fish and chips. I suddenly feel old, ahhhh well that`s life.

I don't know if she was from Leyland, but I was at Balshaw's with one Susan Trenchard. She married a Mr Farron and before they split up they managed to have a son, who they called Timothy. He's now Tim Farron MP and any time soon could well become leader of the Liberal Democrats.

I remember a couple of builders on Gold Hill Lane in Leyland - (Hemmings & Kent) back in the 60’s. I went to Wellfield School with Patrica Kent his daughter, who was in my class. Mr Kent liked a drink but Mr Hemmings was stone cold sober. They both went their different ways - Hemmings did well.

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our Band President, Richard Evans.

Richard was widely regarded as one of the most charismatic and dynamic brass band conductors in the world.

At the beginning of 1978, Richard was recruited to rebuild the Leyland Vehicles Band with the specific remit of achieving Championship status within three years. Under Richard's guidance, the band made history with a meteoric rise through the brass band leagues.

Everyone connected to Leyland Band will miss his friendship and guidance. A great loss to the brass band community.
