Windows 8
#11
I've been using Ubuntu for quite a long time, Noel. I chose it simply because I couldn't afford Windows at the time! It is excellent once you get used to it - I don't feel the urge to return to Microsoft now.

Recently Ubuntu has also changed to a tile-style interface slightly similar to Windows 8. When they did that I changed to a different linux: Mint. It's still Ubuntu-based, but has a "proper" desktop, which I think is better than Ubuntu anyway. Smile

You can also test-drive it from a live CD just like Ubuntu.

There's the option to downgrade it back to 7 Sandra. And the desktop's OK similar to 7. I think it's really designed for the touch screen tablets and it would be superb on them. I'd strongly recommend an hour or so tuition if you do buy 8 it would be well worth it. Ubuntu I am also trying it's totally free, my mate's used it now for over 8 years and swears by it and you can switch between it and windows at start up. 8 will be an initial shock but it gets better as you get used to it.

I solved my Windows8 prob .... I put a new keyboard
in my older Windows7 laptop and use it for everything
except for Skyping(the micraphone doesn't work anymore
and there's too much feedback with external ones)
My grandchildren are happy with this solution ... they
get to use Windows8 PC to their little hearts content!!
