Currently, there is no news of any substance about the old shed area itself ....

.... and here we are all of two years later, Silcock is dead and buried in his grave and still b****r all has occurred yet. There was a rumour going round recently that he had left the land to a bunch of 'travellers'. If true, clearly, this lot will be wanting to use the site onto which to park their caravans and where no-one will ever again be able to get them moved on! One thing is for sure, it will not take them very long to convert the whole place into yet another disgusting refuse tip ... and right in the centre of the village!

I was a "loco-spotter" in my early teens and the Lostock Hall MPD was a big magnet. The working stiffs were fairly tolerant to "loco-spotters" and even let us watch locos being prepped for service, but frequently, management made it ugly head visible and we were run off. I don't know how many perspective BR apprentices were turned off by those idiots. Shoevelling coal into a loco boiler for 10 years, while running 60 mph on the rails didn't appeal to a lot of teens who weren't enthusiasts.

I remember a TV documentary, a few years ago, on the Duchess of Hamilton Stanier Pacific. They reckoned it never could attain the maximum speed that it might have achieved because there wasn't enough room for two stokers, that would have been needed to achieve maximum steam-raising capacity. If there had been that room, the Stanier may have been able to beat "Mallard's" record.

It looks like our house is built on the old carriage site. The area in question at the beginning of the thread by the way is still waiting development.
