Toddler Group?
#1
Does anyone here know of a good toddler ground in Leyland?

We have an 18 month old son, but the only group that my partner took him to was very busy, yet no-one bothered to go and say hello to her - looking for somewhere with friendly people in Leyland as she does not drive.

James, I can sympathise. When our son was little I used to take him each week to a toddler group and everyone was very friendly. Five years later I started taking our daughter, but the original organisers had moved on and I didn't know any of the other mums. They were all in their own cliques and although I made efforts at conversation, I was generally rebuffed. I persevered for the sake of our little girl, who loved playing there, but used to get so bored of being ignored, I started to take a book to read! <g> The last straw was when our daughter was forgotten and didn't get a present when Father Christmas visited the Christmas party (even though I'd paid extra subs the week before to cover the cost of the Christmas gifts) - we didn't go back!

My advice to your partner would be to try and befriend a fellow mum at the health visitor clinic and ask if she'd like to join her at the toddler group. Sadly so many mums are very stand-offish with people who come from outside the area. (I am not from Wigan - from the attitude at the toddler group I wrote of, you'd think I spoke a different language - the ill-feeling was palpable.) Are there any other parents with youngsters in your street? I found I was most friendly with mums from our road with kids the same age. Stick with it - not everyone you come across will be so snooty!

James:

You and your wife might want to try a church-affiliated group. My family have been long-time members of the Methodist Church at the bottom of Turpin Green. Since I'm on the west coast of the USA, I'm obviously not up to speed, but my sister, Jean, is very active in the church. You might want to call her on and have her point you at whoever runs the various young children programs.

James, I understand that the play-group on Slater Lane (near to the traffic lights) is quite good. However, I don`t have any first hand experience of this.

Frank, are you sure it's a good idea to post your sister's private telephone number on a public website? I would advise editing it out of your post and emailing the number to James via this website's email facility. One can't be too careful these days!

Agreed Linda. Frank hope you don't mind the edit. We can't be too careful.
