Spring, gardens and summer
#21
It does taste better, no chemicals, veg is smaller, funny shapes, but tastier.
Our neighbour Pierre (sells us eggs, smells of wee) gave us another 120 seed potatos- "Well, thank you very much, just what I felt like doing!" grumbles Big Al as he prepares another ten furrows...
Martin, I had an outside loo, don't remember slugs but have memories of kittens falling down it!

A neighbour 'kindly' gave me 48 tomato plants. Gave some away, but still ended up planting 33!
Rocketmanjohn, how are your peppers doing?

All the stuff I planted is doing well. The peppers arent ready yet but I'm picking tomatoes every day [giving a lot away]. I only have a total of 8 plants but they're producing more than we can eat. The peaches are ready although I lost a lot last weekend, a tornado roared through close by with 75mph winds in the garden. The rain and thunder and lightning were more than a little scary, there was over 5" in half an hour. The local nutria [coypu] are having a field day with the wind blown fruit.
I planted a herb garden for a bit of fun, the garlic chives are excellent as is the parsley but does anyone know what to do with chervil? I planted 4 dill weed plants, all of which are now over 2 ft. tall, the whole area smells of tartar sauce.

Last Sunday I did the roast (leg of lamb), I followed the book to the letter and was supprised when my wife said that the meat tasted a little different. I picked the fresh herbs from the garden myself. Can anyone explain how I could possibly confuse Rosemary with Lavender?

<g> They do look very similar, Jim! Not to worry, lavender is supposed to be edible so I don't think you'll come to harm. next time try stuffing slivers of garlic into little cuts in the lamb before you roast it - it's delicious!

Hi Linda, I can testify that the consumption of lavender is not fatal (unless of course I put it on the lamb again and the `other half` takes up the meat cleaver!). I agree with what you say about garlic enhancing the taste. However, in this house, `slivers` would be whole cloves, as the absence of vampires would testify. (we havn`t seen one for ages - ROFL).

Garlic is good for the heart and a natural antiseptic, so go for the whole cloves, Jim! Just don't expect anyone to talk to you afterwards! <g>

On the subject of gardens, Lady G has taken my garden severly in hand this year, giving a display of flowers second to none. The none was last year, when a wilderness was all I had with animals prowling in the undergrowth. Now making plans for next year!! W.R.
