Test for sending photos
#1
My ISP alows a number of free websites. I've activated one to give me a way of posting pictures to our forum (I hope).

This is a trial.

If it works, the attached photo is of my first year at Fox Lane Junior School, 1950/51.

I'll try to provide identifications if the photo gets through.

Martin:

I can't get beyond "Format mode" - "Prompt", so I can't get to "select image".

I have Internet Explorer 6.0 with all the current updates. Help please.

I'm surprised that such a good 'page' as this doesn't allow the posting of images on its pages. I sometimes post on the ex-lancs page and they do allow image posting. I can understand where it would/could become a problem mind. I'm sure Martin will'fill us in' on that one.

Frank, not sure how you are going about it but the way I would do it is to copy and paste the URL of the photo between the two img extensions you get after you click on the the 4th from right box above the "color" combo box. Like this.

OK, Here goes.

The photo that appears below (if everything works) is of my class in the first year at Fox Lane Junior School. The teacher was Miss Palmer (later Mrs. Jephtha - hope I spelled that correctly) The headmaster, Mr. Fenton, is on the right.

Sorry it's such a monster. I guess I need to make the basic photo a lot smaller next time.

Identities are as follow (at least those I can remember):

Back row (L - R):
??, Bill Hodge, John Barker, Gordon?, Roger Houghton, Ian Newton

Middle row:
David Demack, Barry Pickup, Graham Brown, Derrick Robinson, Sheila Longton?, Ann Cocker, ??, ??, Chris?, Terry Tomlinson?, Frank Damp, Alan Fowler

Front Row:
??, ??, ??, Mary Ellis, Jean Walsh, ??, ??,Christine Bennett, ??, ??, Sheila Platt, ??

Anyone able to fill in the unknowns?

Any advice on how big the picture needs to be to fit the page? Preferably a pixels wide x pixels high.

John Barker, there's a name from the past. Frank I think you have to get the photo saved onto your desktop, open up the file mine brings up Microft Photoshop, then click on image, resize and reduce it to say 50% then upload it back onto your web site as a reduced image. You could of course save it with a seperate name so you don't lose the original.

Frank, I'd like to put this picture on the School Photo page if you don't mind.

Frank I have mail washer on, I get so many Junk messages I took your advice. When you get up to 70 Spam messages a day it is difficult. [email protected] I'll keep a look out.

Noel, I notice that you and I share the same ISP. Are you on broadband?

I guess the conclusion is that, to get the picture within the Forum's page format, make it no more than 600 pixels wide. It doesn't seem to matter what linear dimensions you specify, it's the pixel count across the width that will control whether or not it fits.
