Dogs in South Ribble
#1
Does anyone know what South Ribble has against dogs? They seem more than happy to put increasing controls on dogs in Worden Park, and blissfully unaware of the number of vehicles (including the Council's own) doing 30 mph in the park where there are signs saying there is a 10mph limit.

I challenged a taxi driver there last week and was told to "get a life". He wasn't too keen on my response that I was challenging him because I wanted to keep my life.

Hi Denis, good point about vehicles in the park. I wonder what other people's experience is.

I normally walk my dog in local fields so can't comment on cars in the park, however the introduction of 20mph zones, what a waste of money putting all those signs up. Instead of doing 10 mph over the speed limit they now do 20mph over it. I do notice some dog owners still don't pick dog mess up. Just leave it for people to stand in. Disgusting.

Don't think South Ribble has a problem with dogs, just irresponsible owners and I am not just on about the ones who leave their cr*p everywhere but also the idiots who have the decency to at least pick it up but then the crass stupidity to tie / throw the bag into a tree or similar and the ones who are perfectly willing to let their hounds yap all day.

Most US cities have leash laws - they have to be on a leash at ALL times except in controlled off-leash parks. We have two of those in Anacortes - 8' chain-link fences and double gates. We quit taking our Labs there because of the number of vicious dogs (mainly Pit Bulls) always picking fights with them. The fine for having a dog off leash elsewehre is $130.

We also have a scoop law and, in our nrighborhood, regularly positioned bag dispensers and cans to drop the bags in. They'r provided by the home-owners' association. There are one or two reidents who don't pick up. Not scooping also carries a $130 fine, but Animal Control has to see it happen and there's only one Control Officer.

Dog barking noise can be reported to Animal Control and there are fines for repeat offenders. We can live with the restrictions and certainly prefer what we have to dogs running free all the time. I have heard of people who get sufficiently fed up of dogs out loose that they go our with their Glock and take care of it.

Last time I went for a jog on Worden Park I was attacked by about 4 dogs whose owners laughed and said "Aw he's only playing". I agree with Apfaz that it's the owners who need their noses rubbing in the dog's shite that is left behind. There is no such thing as a bad dog, just a bad owner.

I don't have a dog of my own any more but regularly walk both a neighbours dogs and one of my relation's dog
consequently I have poop bags in all my pockets some time embarrassing when one wants to wipe ones nose and all you seem to be able to find is a bag rather than a tissue.
On our estate we now have little white signs telling us to clean it up stencilled on the pavement.
The next idea was for a crew from the council to patrol the area and spray any offending ' crap ' with a bright yellow spray ,then to follow up next day and collect it. To me this seems a waste of council money.
Plus I have just had my drive done printed concrete, I was away for 2 days and some ones dog offended,1 pile on pavement two on my drive I now have two lovely yellow circle on my new drive which will not wash off.

If the paint is actually on your drive and not on the pavement itself, then I think you have a claim against the Council. Spraying paint on your drive, for whatever reason, is surely a trespass.

Pit Bulls Frank? They're banned overt here though some idiots still breed them for dog fighting which is also banned. Same laws re dogs apply over here, must be on a lead at all times except in open fields and parkland ( where permitted though some parks stipulate you can't let them off the lead) I personally think some of these speeding drivers should have their noses rubbed in it too. Sick of having cars a foot behind mine while I'm sticking to the speed limit. ( It only makes me go slower but they don't seem to learn)

I would get on to the council and tell them to fix your drive.
