Most of the cameras serve no purpose at all. People slow down until they have passed by them, then speed up again. It's commonly perceived as an easy way to tax the motorist. You just need to be wary of where the cameras are. In Leyland, it's Golden Hill Lane, Fox Lane and Dunkirk Lane. Town centre you can go at 60mph without getting caught.
I think they are digital now William? Am I wrong?

Just re-cycling something I saw in the Press that they had cut the use of film to save money - maybe they are digital now. William R.

Problem with digital is they are always on. Still as long as we all obey the law there shouldn't be a problem and I'm still cynical about the reasons for them. In Lancashire road deaths have actually increased per year in the first full year of their use. Police officials say they have actually fallen where the cameras are situated, fine but what about 100 yards further on ?? Are we to have a stream of cameras all over every inch of road ?

As I understand it, the law only allows erection of speed cameras at proven accident black-spots. To my knowledge - there havn`t been any accidents in the area of Fox Lane where the camera is situated.
David, You are correct on both counts. The rear number plate is the only one to be read and the camera at the Black Bull catches drivers going towards Leyland

A traffic camera has today been accused of causing the death of a woman, the driver taking extra care looking at his speedometer didn't notice the lady in the road. Whatever next.
I can go along with that excuse. I was forever checking my speedometer when I was over there. Even coming the 'other way' 'cause I didn't know how they worked.
I wonder how they enforce the law on us 'visitors', or do they just throw the record away having been told that the subject has left the country ? Assuming that we caused the camera to activate in the first place ;-))

It has been decided this week that any motoring offences carried out in Europe will now be upheld in this country. In the past you could be banned from driving in this country, yet be able to drive in France for example. Your driving record will now be the same in every EEC country.

Assumeing that you rented a car, its the car that gets the ticket, the rental company will have a record of your credit card number
You may get a charge on your card that you were not exoecting
There's no way in hell that ANYONE can legally make a charge against my credit card without my consent.
