Who occupies the old police station on Towngate these days - Hope it's still there and not been demolished due to redevelopment! I imagine it must be a protected building. I was browsing the 1881 census and came across the station. It was occupied by a Police Constable (Jno. Graham) and an Inspector of Police (Richard Hoblett) plus both there families (must have been a bit of a squash)!

Was the building also a library and something to do with the sea cadets?

I remember it being a library back in the 70's John. Then they built the new Leyland Library next to the courts. After that it was a Jobclub for a while. I think it's still used by the DSS for something and upstairs it is still the Navy Club, I could hear the old regulars singing karaoke as I walked past it in the evenings.
