Tesco photos
#1
I've lost the original Tesco forum site so I have started this new one. Tonight I went to the site to see exactly where it was, inspired by Frank I should add. I have taken a few shots, the boardings are still surrounding the site and I will post them on via e-mail since I don't think we can show photos on this site? to anyone interested.
The site starts at the end of Eden St. and goes right up to the cross .
The store is built with it's entrance on the kerb if you follow, of Towngate, facing the site of the old town hall and masonic hall. It extends back towards Sandy Lane with a delivery area I guess between the store and Sandy Lane.( Actually it's St Andrew's close but many of you may not know where that is).
In the other direction facing the front, extending to the swimming baths is the car park and a petrol station, facing the Magistrates Court. Anyone receiving a photo will see what wonderful weather we are having this summer. NOT!!!

The significant owl hoots in the night.

I called at Tesco around 9pm yesterday, on the forecourt was a crowd of young teenagers making the most incredible din. Louts is what I would call them as some ofthem were aggressively jabbing at a store worker who came out to clear them. In the end the Police were called in. Thank God I live well away from this place.

I pity my poor aged parents who live off Westgate and will also have the new store at the top! As I've already said somewhere, Tesco's has made nonsense of the historic heart of Leyland.

It was the one obvious area needing redevelopment , I could cope with the contrast of old versus new if it weren't forthe foul mouthed yobs who just seem intent on causing as much trouble as possible.

Noel:

You might pass this idea on to Tesco. A local convenience store in this area was having a lot of "yob" trouble. They started playing classical music, mainly opera, over the outside speaker system. End of yob problem.

It DID need redevelopment, Noel, being an historic area which had been partly destroyed , left to run down and become an eyesore over two or three decades. And there is such a thing as SENSITIVE redevelopment!

Caroline, I can see where you are coming from 100%, however the choice between Tesco and dereliction is no choice at all! I can understand your concern for your parents regarding Aldi at the end of Westgate, but isn`t the problem of a few customers cars far less than that of mindless yobs?

I have great empathy with you Caroline. Tesco's is being described as Leyland's Airport, such has been the attention to design.
However I agree with Spitfire. What alternatives were on offer? The site had been a junk yard for at least 2 decades. Had those who give planning permission any alternatives to consider?

I'm no yob! Tell me, where else are we supposed to go? Are there any skate parks in Leyland? NO. Are there any parks that we can go to without being attacked? NO. So before you critisise us, * edited *, perhaps you should consider that children in Leyland are just as important as the older citizens and we need things to do aswell![}Smile]
