I've had a Kindle since Christmas and must admit that it's very easy, when starting to read after using a touch screen phone, to try and turn the page by sliding a finger across the screen. I've done that a couple of times and so has my husband. However it is handy to be able to shift a speck of dust off the screen without altering what you're looking at - something you can't do with a modern mobile phone.

I'm not up with a lot of this technology and not sure I would use a kindle, but there were cheaper models of similar things in WHSmith when I looked in yesterday, cheapest was £49 but I forget what it was called.

The original two versions with the keyboard are no longer sold in the US. Equivalent US prices for the current models are:
Basic Kindle Touch, 6" screen, basic wifi $65
Kindle Keyboard with 3G wifi, $ 139
Kindle "Paperwhite" (similar to basic but with bright white screen $119
3G Paperwhite $179
Basic "Fire" $159
Fire HD $199
Fire HD with 8.9" screen $299 (this one and the next one have the screen oriented the other way to the regular "Fire")
Fire HD widescreen with 4G wifi and Dolby audio $499
If you go to the US Amazon website you can look at the pictures.

P.S. I'm more than happy with mine. Sure saves a lot of weight of books when we're out in the RV. I read a lot around the campfire in an evening, particularly at this time of year. LED flashlights to read by are easy on batteries.
Also since s-i-l captured about 2500 relatively recent books, from whence and how I didn't enquire, I haven't had to shell out a lot of money for what I'm reading.
