Items of news from the US related to UK
#11
Not sure I put this topic in the right place but if Martin would like to move it that would be fine. Anyway last night on the news there was a segment regarding the UK Muslims. I did not see the start of it so not sure which part of the UK the person was talking from but the segment talked about a warning from a high up muslim leader warning the UK that if they do not listen to the muslims in the UK they will have I think the number was 200 million muslims who will become active against them. Today I looked through the BBC website as I thought this was a very worthy item that really should have been front page news but I could not find any mention of it. Have any of you seen any report on it. I will try and find the programme I found it and and give more information.

There has been alot of talk on the TV today about a new policy that the police in the UK are going to start. From now on when the police are thinking of raiding a muslim house or investigate a muslim they will take the information to a muslim board of leaders of that area and tell them what they have and what they plan to do. I am sorry but it was made fun of here. Not thought of as a good idea. The headline was political correctness gone mad.....

Recently I read a cartoon strip-very simple but I think illustrates one commonly held view of this country -A couple had come back to visit England after nearly thirty years living on the other side of the world -said they had come back to see their old country and how things had changed.
When asked had England changed they said the country they remembered wasn't here anymore.
Not surprising when so much is written about the sillier things here which are done in the name of Political Correctness and taken up avidly by the media.
No doubt there are many serious problems which must be addressed. Some may have read this week that a churchyard is planned with graves facing Mecca instead of the Christian tradition of towards Jerusalem. Just another attack on Christian values.
There is still however much of the old Britain left to be enjoyed but one has to look for it.
Many will have seen the way that Leeds for example was represented in the images which flashed round the world after the July bombings last year and maybe thought that was all there was of the City.
This week I have been watching another aspect of Leeds and the proud face of a major cultural centre here.
It is the International Piano Competition attended by brilliant young pianists from all over the world an event which is known and respected globally.
All performances are held in the magnificent Leeds Town Hall. This week we are hearing the final seven from a large number of entrants who come from China ,Korea ,Russia -indeed all points of the compass.
Last night an American finalist Grace Fong played- a magnificent interpretation of a Mozart Concerto.I look forward to tonight's performance.

Just an item of news from UK for anyone interested re the progress in the world renowned Leeds Piano Competition and another superb performance again by an American pianist Andrew Brownell-he may win I think -but there is still a Russian performer tonight highly rated.
My reasons for introducing this topic was to highlight the point that Leeds is not all back- to -back houses breeding home grown terrorists. The good things here require searching out.
The organisers have placed 12 pianos in public areas so that anyone passing by who plays in even a small way can enjoy a musical moment.
A truly international event.
