Roundtable Funds
#1
Excuse my ignorance, but this week the Roundtable came on to our estate collecting money. This happens every year at Christmas, and I duly donate every year without thinking too much about it. Can anybody tell me what this money goes towards. I am quite happy to support local organisations, but it would be nice to know where the money goes.[?]

Thanks Noel. I assume the money goes to local charities. It's a shame that so many organisations rely on public support these days. I hate sending people away when they come knocking at your door, but you have to draw the line somewhere.

That's why we donate only to the Salvation Army. We trust them.

With you there, David. The Army is my number one to give to, my second is the R.N.L.I.. I may never need the help from a lifeboat, living 100 miles from the sea, but you never hear of a lifeboat crewman refusing to go on a call. Just think, someone will be on call on Christmas Day, and they never say "Just wait a minute" - one bleep and they`re off to whatever faces them.

Sadly, there are so many charities who rely on touching a raw nerve, or raise emotions, so you have to be very selective and let feelings be your guide.

The Royal National Lifeboat Institution, (RNLI), is one of the charities I always visit if one is handy. There is one on the prom at Lytham that I have visited, and another on Blackpool prom that is quite extensive and well worth a visit. I think they are the only two lifeboat stations in Lancashire capable of launching. We did visit the one at Portpatrick, and bought a few gifts there when we were last over.
There isn't a RNLI in the USA, that particular job is left to the US Coast Guard, which is funded by the US government, and is part of the US Military. Here are both their respective links.....

Hi Chris

I was fortunate to be a member of Leyland Round Table for a number of years.. As Noel rightly says they provide hampers to those that find themselves for what ever reason needing a little help around Christams time. LRT has also been involved in many community service projects over the years including supplying and fitting window locks, door chains, and security viewers for the elderly. Whilst I was a member we were privileged to get involved in sending a local lad and his family to Disney Land, Florida. They also run the fireworks display on the park which also helps to raise funds.. Every penny goes back into community service projects to help local people. If anyone would like further information on how to apply for help or if anyone has an interest in joining Round Table (males aged 18 - 45) I would be happy to get you in touch with the relevant people, hope this sheds a little light...
