Hello everyone.
Firstly a big hello to you all as this is my post. I've enjoyed reading the forum over the past few days after finding it whilst doing some research on Leyland.
Secondly my wife and I are thinking of relocating to Leyland in the next few months as it seems like a good place to live from a couple of visits to the town recently. We are considering moving to the development off of Wheelton Lane as it looks pretty convenient for the centre of Leyland as well as the train station.
A couple of questions really for you all if I may:
- Do you recommend Leyland as a place to live? (Happy to accept even the most biased of answers!)
- Is the commute to Manchester on the train easy enough? It looks fine at 45 minutes to central Manchester, but I was wondering if anyone here does the journey.
Any other tips or opinions are welcomed. From looking at other threads as well as visiting Leyland, it looks like we won't go short for a decent chip shop at least!
Thanks in advance.

Hi there RAPC, and a warm welcome to the forum. You won't be far from Leyland Station if you buy on Wheelton Lane, 10 minutes walk maximum, I don't do the train journey so can't comment, I do know if I travelled to where I work ( Middleton) it's a lot longer with 1 change.
I was born locally and returned from 10 years working in Somerset/Wiltshire so yes I'm biased, I like the place though like most places these days it has it's rougher areas. You will have no problem having a take-away of most usual types, Chinese Italian Indian KFC Macdonalds ( spit)
and shopping, take your pick, Tesco Morrisons Aldi and Lidl all in town Sainsburys and Asda 3 miles away. Easy access to M6/M61/M65 Blackpool 20 miles awy, Lakes and Dales 30-40 miles away.
Worden Park for relaxation and entertainment. Gyms galore, swimming pool, heavens it's the most wonderful place in the world.

Hi RAPC
Welcome to the forum. I agree with Noel, you've got pretty much all you need in Leyland.

Welcome to the forum, I'm sure you will enjoy living in Leyland. If it wasn't that I love the exact spot where I live in Whittle-le-woods
about 3-4 miles away I would be very happy to live in Leyland as it is so handy for everything and there is a good bus network as well as the trains. I was brought up in Farington ( Stanifield Lane) so I am quite biased as well LOL

Hi RAPC I came to Leyland (Farington) Actually as a visitor 32 years ago & never went back home over the Penines I hasve seen Leyland grow over this period of years some of it good some not so good but I still love the area and as a Yorkie would recomend it as a good place to live. I find it so handy for the Motorway network and It has a reasonable railink via Manchester and Preston.
As far as Chippy's go Lancastrians cannot make good fish and chips or a decent pint of beer but thats only my opininon,If you do decide to relocate to Leyland I am sure you and your wife will be quite happy and receive a warm welcome.

hello rapc, I think it depends on were you are moving from, I THINK IF YOU LIVE NOW SOMEWHERE l ike south uk or lakes(which is beautifull)then Leyland will seem small and less interesting but its to each their opinion. My parents have lived there since 1964, same house, same street, I moved to Holland in 1980, but still miss my then local, The Gables, fish and chips are well missed and about those custard pies from the bakers, but thers lots to like and things just like any town, that people will complain about, in general its a fair place to live.I use to go by
train to manchester, one train, take without delays about 45minutes, but that was some year
back? The park as well is a great place for the kids, try the train ride and dont forget to feed the ducks!!festival is also worth checking out and leyland motors museum.

shuffy, dont be too hard on fiverise, hes not one of us, being a yorkshire person is somewhat different than us lancashire foke????? I know from myself, when I visit my parents, coming from Rotterdam, which is I think on the scale of London, leyland seems small and less colourfull.
I loved it when I lived there, even when I moved to Manchester for a few years was always glad to go back home, it has a certain charm about it and for us leyland foke great memories!!!

Thanks to everyone for their feedback and local hints. It helped to reinforce what we were already thinking about Leyland, so with a bit of luck we'll have moved in to the area in the next couple of months.
I'm a Mancunian originally, but lived for 7 years in the London area before moving back up north to Bradford. So I've done the bright lights of London and would prefer to live somewhere with a bit of a community and some greenery near by.
As for Fiverise, much as I love living in Yorkshire I have to disagree about the chippies. With the exception of the great Harry Ramsdens in Guiseley, the Lancashire chippies are still the best. (Not a hint of bias at all though!)
