My daughter Wendy Stretch is researching our family tree and she would like to know if anyone has any information on a Mr.Booth Moss who was a Barber in the Leyland area.I would appreciate any information you may have.

Booth's shop was on the east side of Towngate, opposite the old Public Hall. We lived at the bottom end of Church Road, just a couple of hundred yards up from the Cross. Our house became a doctors' office for a few years and then was demolished as part of the Towngate "renovation". My Dad, brother and I were regulars for quite a few years, as it was an easy walk to the barbershop from home.
If you have the "Archive Photographs" book on Leyland by David Hunt and William Waring, there's a photo on page 63 shows Booth on the pavement talking to the owner of the furniture store, Ben Pickup, in his car (a Triumph "Renown" mis-identified as a "Mayflower"). The photo was probably taken around 1954.

On one of our occasional visits to Leyland after we emigrated, I had a haircut at Mosscrop's place on Balcarres Road. I hadn't realised he'd taken over Booth Moss's business and then moved following the Towngate remodel.
