Hi Everyone
I have been looking around your site for some time, trying to find anything that could help me trace my grandfathers family, with no luck. So I have plucked up courage to start a post.
I am Raymond Iddon and I live in Chorley, My dad is Gilbert Iddon born 1934 in Euxton, But im trying to get information on his dad Harold Iddon born sept 1906. All I know is he was not registerd in Chorley, So i think he is from Euxton or Leyland. His dad was called Edward Iddon. I would be very greatful if anyone knows anything at all about him.

Hi there Ray, welcome to the forum, please feel free to write some more.My wife's name was Iddon before we married, she hails from the Tarleton area though. Iddon is as I'm sure you are aware a very popular name round here.
Maybe Spifire can help , he's the expert on tracing ancestry as far as this forum goes.

I also have Iddons in the family, from Tarleton. My great grandmother was Ann Iddon who married John Johnson. One of their daughters , Margaret, married a William Iddon.
Ann Iddon's brothers and sisters were Matthew Sutton, Sarah, Mary, Alice and William.
Noel, are we related??!!!

Eh ecky thump Caroline we may be. My wife's called Margaret her dad was Walter but while he was alive he was always very vague about his family. I know he had brothers and sisters and he was the youngest . I'll have to check with Margaret when she gets back from Waddecar. I think Margaret may be as much in the dark, it's time I did some research.
Us artistic types have to stick together, LOL.

Hi Ray, I,m very keen on genealogy so I checked some records and found an Edward Iddon born in Bretherton in 1880 which would have been about right for your gt grandad. This Edward had five older brothers and five older sisters, his father, Thomas, was a hay dealer and farmer born in 1837 and the family lived on South Rd Bretherton in 1881. Hope this is your grandfather. CAROLINE, I also noted that your "Ann" lived on Hesketh Lane Tarleton in 1881 with her parents Thomas and Margaret, but you probably knew that, interesting though isn,t it. Regards, Bryan.

Why am I the only member of this forum without a friend or relative called IDDON ? [:p]
Hi Ray - Hope you stick around for other subjects too.
I`m trawling through some records that are later than the 1881 census but it`s a slow process.

Thanks to all that took the time to welcome me and your posts. I have an interest in all IDDON'S as we all must be related at some point.
In paticular to accy stan,I did know of this family from Bretheton, but there is no mention of HAROLD and EDWARD was a painter in 1928 when HAROLD married EVELYN GREGSON from Chorley at St James church, chorley. They had a daughter, MARGERET in 1931 but moved to Stock cottages, Euxton when my dad GILBERT was born in 1934.Not the big house that is named STOCK COTTAGE on Wigan road but the sad looking row of small derelict houses set back of the same road a little further down.

Hi to sandieh and neol
I am very interested with your WALTER IDDON,my dad can remember visiting a UNCLE WALTER in Lostock Hall / Tardy gate area. Although we have no proof he was my dad's brother or they just called him that, this must have been about 1940's.
His wife was called POLLY and he knows they had a daughter, not sure of her name but ELSIE rings a bell.
Another possible connection is the rubber works, that was my dads first job when he left school (along with half of the population of Leyland )But Harold was also very vague about his family.
