Was just reading these contributions. A couple of things - I remember seeing an Atlantean for the first time in the 50s or very early 60s. It was parked outside the step houses in Fox Lane as I walked to school from our house in Church Road. It was a prototype, some time before they came into service. It seemed enormous compared to the ubiquitous Titans and I was fascinated, I mean, 78 passengers!!
Meanwhile in sunny Plymouth, our evening paper's "Looking Back" feature recently printed a photo of a three-axle Leyland bus in the local depot. Standing on the platform was the young son of the city transport undertaking's director. It was none other than Donald Stokes!

The only bus conductor I personally remember was Harry Waring from the early 60s. He lived next door to my grandma. He died suddenly of a heart attack I think in the 60s. Does anyone remember him?

Hello all I,m a new poster but more importantly, Harry Wareing was my Grandfather. He died in the late sixties when i was five or six.
Harry and my grandmother,Lily, lived at 30 Nelson Avenue and had two children Roy, my father and Vivienne, my aunty. Although i was very young when Harry died, I can remember Sunday afternoons wathing the football with him on black and white tele. He bought me my first bike and no doubt started my fixation with Stan, Olive, Blakey and the On The Buses mob , yep i still watch it to this day!.
P S My Grandmother lived at Nelson Avenue into her nineties.

Welcome 1964. I remember your grandmother very well. I was about 7 or 8 when he died. My Grandma and grandad lived at number 28 Nelson Avenue. Grandad lived until he was 93 and grandma till 88. My dad was Les Eccleston do you remember him and my grandma and grandad?

When I read my reply, I meant to say I was 7 or 8 when your grandad (Harry) died. I have some pictures of Lily, Roy (your dad) who was friends with my dad, and Vivienne as a child.

Just been round to my Mums and she remembers your Father Les.
She confirmed that my late Father Roy and he were good pals for years.
I have fond early childhood memories from Nelson Avenue and what seemed
the huge back garden (looking at the houses built in Leyland in the sixties to present,it still is massive!).Anyway, back to the subject matter, Harry Wareing, it would appear my Grandmother, Lily,would often have to send a search party down to the British Legion every Armistice day. On that certain sunday in November, Harry as an ex WW2 soldier would be there for the duration, and why not,if he and his mates didnt deserve a few drinks on that day who did ?.
