Go to Malta next time, Noel - topless sunbathing is illegal there! All very staid and proper! But the driving - now there's something to give anyone nightmares!

Lots of old Leyland buses in Malta .. including a Tiger Cub .. had my photo taken beside it last week.

You're right about the driving there Linda and the parking is something else!!
..Double parking ....parking diagonally on corners ... parking on the sidewalk or front end on the sidewalk if there's only enough room for the car to fit sideways between two already parked cars ...
and that's just some of it!!

Excerpt from today's Leyland Guardian:---
Controversial homes scheme gets go-ahead

PLANS to build 13 townhouses on a historic South Ribble site have been given the go ahead.

Planning committee members at South Ribble Council granted permission to demolish three buildings on the Farington Lodge site and build the new housing development.
Councillors were satisfied that the development would not undermine the scenic surroundings of the lodge and would provide a perfect northern entrance to Leyland.
The plans were given the go-ahead despite objections from several local residents, who believed that the new housing would not be in keeping with the surrounding area

Can a local please enlighten us ex-pats who suffer from CRS (can't remember s--t)? As I remember, Farington Lodge is a fairly large manor house type of place where, among other things, Leyland Rotary Club meets. I went there several times with my father when Boeing allowed me to stop over in England on trips. Or is that Farington House?

If all the fuss is about the little bungalow on Stanifield Lane that was the gate house for the big one, what's the big deal? I assume the houses will be built on the former sports fields that were between Stanifield Lane and the mill resevoirs.

Back to the days in 1953 when Leylands took on the M.O.S. Factory, I believe that the Lodge was at the driveway entrance and the Farington House was used as a Guest House by the Company, set back from the road in its own grounds.

Anything after the 1950¬s - sorry, I can`t help.
