Oh yes you can! Our local butcher does a lovely black pudding! Tripe is more tricky, but if you search out the right venues (Wigan market for instance) you can still get hold of it. However I prefer French black pudding, Caroline, largely because they leave out the big 'orrible fatty bits! We had some beautiful apple flavoured black puddings in Brittany this year - they barbequed like a dream!

Here in Aotearoa tripe is not on the menu of popular dishes though there is a local Tripe and Onion Club where ex pat Poms get together and eat -well- Tripe, in all its many guises, but you don't see it in the shops at all.
I used to like the honeycomb tripe from Almonds Tripe shop in Preston-lots of lovely holes for the vinegar.

Lady G, We have a stall on Barnsley Market where you can buy a saucer full of neatly cubed honeycombe tripe, put some salt and pepper and vinegar on and enjoy. Its really popular, and just across the passage there is a stall selling prepared dishes of prawns and seafood for the "stand and eat" fraternity, you can even buy soused herring if you know where to go!! Why eat at home? Oh, and don`t forget the slices of black pudding. Do you get it as good down under? Flashback - we had a lot of tripe and onion during the War said to "put a lining on your stomach" ( looking at myself, I think I got someone else`s share)Regards and t.c. Bill.

Will pass on the seafood but keep those soused herrings and tripe on the ready for when I do my big last trip.
Have promised to have a pint of Boddingtons best bitter with my mate Brian in the Pleasant.That's if he hasn't taken fright or flight!

They do a lovely( says my partner) fruited black pudding over here.However, when the farmer's wife from across the road came over with home-made black pudding when they killed their pig, he commented that the taste was 'a bit close to the pig's bottom'!!
My great-grandparents had the tripe dressers down Friargate, Preston , where Bamber's now is.
When's this drinking spree? Are we all invited if we're around and if we promise not to show you up, Lady G?

Am polishing up my Lanky accent for maybe April next year all being well.This will quite possibly be my last visit so maybe we'll be able to see each other in the 'flesh' as it were.Could be we will all have to wear a red rose as identification.
I know what Noel looks like though.
'Oh to be in England' and all that!
