Hi there John,
It was indeed David, memory is going just like the old knees, and the last time I saw him - quite a number of years ago - was in Chorley and stopped to have a chat, at that time he was walking with a stick, but still looked well and asked him if he still play the clarinet. Are we talking about Brian Curran ex ROF Instrument Mechanic who took up - I believe - a Television Shop in Eccleston?

Right again MjO, Brian arranged a get together at the Eagle a few years ago and a load of ex Balshavians from my year showed up. Again, I've lost touch with Brian and another pal, Peter Mockett, who became Chief Constable of Manchester, now retired. Anyone knowing their whereabouts please let me know.

Hi Balshavians
This is a general request for information.
I am producing a dvd chronicling the history of Balshaws with personal memories of former pupils/staff (an article appeared in the Chorley/Leyland Guardian recently). I have had a number of replies offering support (in the form of photos, anecdotes, memorabilia etc), but would still like more input.
I would be grateful if you could pass this email onto any interested parties and please get in touch if you would like to participate.

I went to Balshaw's from September of 1951, starting out in 1C, through to April of 1958. At that time I was in Lower 6th and having an awful time. I bailed out and went to English Electric Aviation at Warton, from where I got an Ordinary National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering and then a Diploma in Technology from the Royal College of Advanced Technology in Salford.
I'd be happy to contribute. I'll write something up in the next week or so and send by e-mail through the Forum system.

I have many happy memories of Balshaws. I was there from 1961 - 1968. My brother went there in 1956. My mum went there in 1927 and several of the same teachers still haunted the place - Mr Wilkinson (His girls were la creme de la creme - don't you know!), Mr Hilditch ("get out lout!") and A J Bull ("mm?") to name but three.
PS David Lawton once pinched my girlfriend.

Yes I knew Alec, rocketman put me in touch a year or 2 ago and I had an e-mail from Alec. It sounded like he was doing OK at the time, good to hear from you David. I was in the year below Alec and Dedrah.

Sir John's mother, Mary, was, I think, my mother's cousin, or half cousin. His father was, of course, Frank Lawton, solicitor in Leyland for many years (Lawton, Heaton and Demack?). Good to know I'm related to a Knight of the Realm, however distantly! (Wonder if that confers any benefits on me?!)
