Wellington Park

Well I can only report what he said. There's no other noises coming from the hotel.

"How do rumours get started?" Name that tune!

It could be a malicious act by a competitor, or just someone saying "I wonder if . . " or maybe someone expecting to hear a certain message and assuming it was what was said.

Perhaps Neil should take an ad in the LEP and Guardian to refute the rumours.

I know nothing of Wellington Park other than we were interested in perhaps taking a pitch at the new table-top sales that had begun. Unfortunately when we went to see how it was working out, we found that the stall holders outnumbered the customers by about three to one.
Does anyone know if this has improved?

Neil:

I haven't been back to Leyland for several years, so I'm working off memories from the 1950's and 60's. When I was a paperboy for Dobson's (formerly Threllfall's) at the corner of Fox Lane and Towngate, I had the Church Road route for a while. I used to deliver to Wellington House (there was a box in the wall next to their identifier stone block). I was grateful that I didn't have to go to the Hall's front door with the paper. I had to do that with the stately home on the opposite side of Church Road (whose name escapes me). I was still in the UK, but living in the Midlands when Stokes Hall was built.

I had the impression (from 4000 miles away!) that both Wellington House and Stokes Hall had been demolished. Is your business actually in one of those buildings or in something new?

My daughter in law's brother got made redundant from the hotel so clearly all is not well despite what Neil says.

Stokes Hall is now an estate of bigger houses.

Wellington Park is a fairly recent development Frank.
